This abstract was part of the 2026 UCSF AI and Education Symposium
The UCSF Library plays an essential role in advancing AI literacy and supporting its integration into education, research, and clinical care. Through a range of free services tailored to the needs of UCSF students, faculty, and staff, the Library empowers the campus community to build core competencies across four main areas: technical knowledge, ethical awareness, critical evaluation, and practical skills to effectively apply generative AI tools in their professional and academic endeavors. This show-and-tell session will highlight the Library's services and resources with a special focus on applications for Education.
The Library’s current AI trainings include two workshop series designed to build foundational and practical AI skills. The AI in Your Toolkit series invites participants to explore the broader implications of AI, including topics such as bias, environmental impact, and using AI as a tutor, enabling them to critically assess AI’s role in their work and learning environments. The Data and Document Analysis with SQL and Python series focuses on the technical application of AI tools for research data analysis, equipping participants with the skills to integrate Python, SQL, and generative AI into data workflows.
In addition to workshops, the Library provides individualized support through one-on-one consultations on a wide variety of generative AI topics, including examining AI tools for literature searches, navigating publisher and funder AI policies, leveraging AI for programming, using AI to assess syllabi or lesson plans, and evaluating AI for writing and editing.
By supporting critical evaluation and ethical implementation of generative AI tools, the Library contributes to the development of innovative and impactful practices that enhance learning, discovery, and care across the UCSF community
